Chouteau 2 Power Plant

Chouteau 2 Power Plant - Chouteau, Okla.

The team of Kiewit Power Engineers and TIC – The Industrial Company was awarded the contract to engineer, procure, construct and startup the 540-megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant with two Siemens V84.3A2 combustion turbines, two Vogt NEM heat recovery steam generators and a Siemens KN condensing steam turbine.

Chouteau 2 serves as a sister plant to Chouteau 1, an existing combined cycle power block with the same equipment configuration that is located adjacent to the project site.

The owner purchased the combustion turbine generators, heat recovery steam generators, steam turbines and other major equipment from the grey market. A large turbine hall building was supplied as part of the plant to house the combustion turbine generators and steam turbine. Chouteau 2 uses the existing control room, and some utilities are shared between the two plants. These unique design elements required close coordination with the owner and its existing plant.

Chouteau 2 won Associated Builders and Contractor’s “Excellence in Construction Award” for projects more than $100 million in 2012.
