AQCS

An integral part of any coal-fired project is the air quality control system (AQCS). In addition to greenfield installations, TIC has participated in many major scrubber, baghouse, SCR and DCS retrofits throughout the country. Through a unique mix of capabilities offered by the TIC family of companies and our associates, TIC offers innovative and timely solutions for clients to meet increasingly stringent federal and state air quality requirements.

Building on a long history of constructing traditional environmental control units, TIC is pioneering concepts such as integration of typical FGD equipment into a cast-in-place concrete stack module applicable to large plants. The system is provided on an EPC basis through a joint venture of TIC and T.E. Ibberson Company (a TIC company).

At the same time, TIC continues to support its clients through construction involving typical dry and wet scrubbers, SCR installations, electrostatic precipitators, baghouses, burner retrofit installations and various combinations of those technologies.

Southwest Power Station Unit 1

Southwest Power Station Unit 1

Springfield, Mo.

Facility retrofits often present unique challenges, especially when existing structures and original drawings do not match. Kiewit used laser scanning technology to develop a 3-D model of the existing Southwest Power Station, allowing the project team to identify problems before they could affect the project schedule or budget.

Ghent Coal Combustion Residuals Transport Project

Ghent Coal Combustion Residuals Transport Project

Ghent, Ky.

Along the Ohio River just south of where Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky meet, sits the Ghent Generating Station — one of the most environmentally sound and technologically advanced coal-fired generating plants in the nation.

Big Bend Station

Big Bend Station

Apollo Beach, Fla.

The project consisted of retrofitting these boilers with Selective Catalytic Reduction systems for NOx abatement and included one SCR reactor per unit, draft ID fans, structural support steel, ductwork, ammonia piping, electrical equipment, instrumentation and boiler modifications.

Dave Johnston Units 3 and 4 FGD

Dave Johnston Units 3 and 4 FGD

Glenrock, Wyo.

The team of Kiewit and TIC – The Industrial Company was awarded the contract to engineer, procure and construct a dry flue gas desulfurization (FGD) system addition for Unit 3 (230 megawatts) and Unit 4 (330 megawatts) at the existing Dave Johnston facility. With an addition of new equipment on the west side of the plant, the air quality control system provided by The Babcock & Wilcox Company (B&W) will reduce sulfur oxide (SOX) emissions.
