Big Bend Station - Apollo Beach, Fla.
The existing plant consists of four Coal-fired boilers totaling, ranging in vintage from 1070 through 1983, totaling 1750 MW. Units 1-3 are Riley Stoker Boilers and unit 4 is a Combustion Engineering Boiler.
The project consisted of retrofitting these boilers with Selective Catalytic Reduction systems for NOx abatement and included one SCR reactor per unit, draft ID fans, structural support steel, ductwork, ammonia piping, electrical equipment, instrumentation and boiler modifications.
The series began in with unit 4 in May of 2006 and was completed in a tie-in outage of unit 1 in May of 2010.
The SCR was a proprietary design by Sargent & Lundy and utilizes Cormetech Catalyst.
The entire project totaled 865,000 manhours.
